2021 went by like a fever dream and now we're dipping our toes into a brand new year. Like lots of people, last year was filled with lots of ups and downs, lots of excitement and disappointments. One of those disappointments/frustrations came right at the end of the year too which put a bit of a damper on my Christmas celebrations.
(One day I'll write about it but today isn't that day..)
Anyway, I've dusted myself off and I'm ready to use the lessons of my past to create a new future. For the last couple of days, I've been writing some of my art goals for 2022. Here's what I've come up with so far.
I want to showcase more of my uniqueness
I want to stop holding myself back
I want to showcase more dynamism and depth
I want to tell more stories with my art
In the past, and especially last year, I felt that I was too focused on creating art that would fit into what was already out there in the publishing industry. But this year, I'm giving myself permission to forget all of that and just to follow where my heart is leading me. That means that If I want to experiment with a different style/medium, I sure will.
I also want to get out of just doing what's in my comfort zone. That means a focus on doing more:
Backgrounds
Prop Designs
Various Types of Clothing/Costume
Diverse Character Designs i.e ages, body types, ethnicities, disabilities
At the end of the year, I want to have more clarity on who I am as an artist. I hope you'll come along and enjoy the adventure with me. It's going to be a wild ride.
